I know to some people that starting on a Christmas list in September is way too early and I would have to agree, Christmas shouldn’t come in to any form of conversation until at least the end of October.
But as I haven’t been very prepared over the last few years, I decided that this year I would get back to doing what I normally do, Start buying things in September.
For myself I’ve managed to score a great gift, when Target had their Toy sale on I rain checked the week before a Nintendo Wii set for $400 that includes Wii Sport,Controller and dock as well as the Wii. I’m impressed as I’ve wanted one for a while and hadn’t found the best deal and as they have layby, I was able to take 4 months to pay it off.
The second good thing about this is that for my birthday I plan on buying the Wii Fit so it’s really a gift that keeps on giving.
For Mum this year I’m thinking of either buying her one of the porcelain ladies she’s been eying off at the Chemist lately and I’ve known she’s wanted one for ages, was meant to be a 60th Birthday gift for her but I didn’t get around to buying one, sadly.
Or I was thinking of getting her a iPod shuffle so she can listen to the music she likes to hear while driving or doing other things.
All I do know is that I wont be doing a group gift with my brother and Father, as they haven’t paid me yet for the gift I got her for Mother’s day yet!.
Speaking of Dad, I have no idea what I’m going to buy him, it’s the same thing every year, no matter what you buy him, he never gets me anything and if I buy him a gift voucher for a book, he never uses it.
I think I might get him a voucher from the local hardware store, I think he might use that more then another book one, thanks to the amount of books he’s been borrowing from the Library lately, I’d be wasting my cash.
For my Brother and his Family, I honestly don’t know what to get them, I think for my Niece and Nephew they will get books, as I refuse to buy those two any more toys, as they have far too many and have no respect for them either,
Knowing my Sister-in-law, she will more then likely buy Mum and I another useless hamper with things in it I don’t use/need.
I think I might just get her a Gift voucher for something, not sure just yet.
For someone who’s been apart of the family for 6 years, she really hasn’t made a go at figuring out that you can give someone only so many bath hampers before they can open up a shop with them all.
No matter what I end up buying for them, I know I wont spend any more then $20, because I do set a limit on these things.

Suffered another blow to the ego today.
It happened as usual when I entered a shoe store looking for a new pair of work shoes. And as per usual I left the store empty handed again.
One of the things I seem to fail at as a Woman is shoes, I really do enjoy a good pair of shoes and looking at them is nice also.
But sadly, I’ve never need able to find “the pair” of shoes that will make my year.
Some of the shoes I tried on today are the ones I’ve been looking for, for a long time.

I love Mary Jane’s, wither they be flats or Heeled, I just love how smart they are, and the pair I tried on today where in my size (10) but sadly it wasn’t meant to be, as the shoe was a very small 10 and I wasn’t going to give up the ability to walk just to wear pretty shoes.
The Doc’s as per usual fitted really well, and looked brilliant, but I’m not in the market for another pair just yet, so kept those in mind for later on.
When I do get a new pair I really want ones that go up to my calf, so I have something to work on while I’m at the gym.
A few of the other ones I tried on where way to small, and I have a feeling that I’d be lucky to find a pair of size 11’s at the store I went to, even though they supposedly stock them.
At least it wasn’t as bad as the girl I saw in the shop with both her parents trying their hardest to get her feet in to a pair of boots, while she was crying out “that it was no use, they wont fit!”

After reading a post on Life Hacker about how long people keep their mobile phone I had a think back at how many phones I’ve had in my adult life.
I can still remember the time when my father brought home one of the original “bricks” for us to use. It was Bulky and if I wanted to carry it I’d have to either stuff it in a big hand bag or clip it to my belt , which at the time looked silly and as I was still fairly young (16) I never was allowed to take it with me any ways.
After I picked up my first job, one of the first things I decided to do was buy a Phone.
I had the money and was at least old enough to sign a contract with Telstra, so I went in and chose the cutest sounding phone I could see.

NEC Fido
I was on a $20 plan and I loved that phone, it was sparkly metallic blue and woofed when it rang, it also came in a box that looked like a kennel and I was smitten.
I think I kept that phone for maybe 2 years until the battery died in the arse and when I tried to get a replacement I found out that they no longer made them and also the company didn’t support them either.
So with a heavy heart I toddled off to the local Telstra shop and tried out a few new phones, I was studying so it had to be a sturdy phone and as I was out of contract the guy at the shop wasn’t sure if I’d get a new phone, but luckily I succeeded and bought myself the first of a long line of Nokia’s.

Nokia 5110
What a phone this one was, I would have to say that this model of phone was the bull dog of phones when it came out, you could do almost anything with this phone and it would last and last, I loved the fact I could change the face plate, and took advantage of this when I was living in Thailand, I returned home with some many new covers in a range of colours and designs.
I still have this phone now and after nearly 9 years it’s still going strong as the phone my mother uses when she goes out.
The length of time I kept this phone was a bit longer then the Fido and with any other phone I’ve brought since, 4 years for this one and the only reason I changed it was the fact I hated carrying around such a big phone, so off I toddled to Telstra again to pick up another new phone.

Nokia 8310
The first of the really small phones I owned, and the first that allowed me to have cool ring tones and it also vibrated.
This little sucker was a lot of fun to have and I still remember the first time it rang when I had it switched to the vibrate setting, I nearly jumped 2 foot in a shop when it went off, it surprised me so much.
A really nice little phone, not as hardy as the 5110, and sadly the battery life was poor and I found myself having to reboot it so many times as it seem to not hold it’s charge very well.
This was the phone I kept for the shortest time period 2 years to be exact, as I was sick of it not working so when I had the chance I went out and bought a new one as soon as I had the money.

Nokia 6111
Another case of love at first sight with this phone, I saw it on the Nokia web site and had to have it, I was so eager to get it that I ended up getting it one week too early and had to pay the bloody thing off, I was so pissed off with myself that I didn’t wait two weeks until it went on to $0 hand set at Telstra.
Oh well It was worth it, well apart from the fact I had it for 4 days and the original hand set died a quick death, but luckily the phone shop replaced it for me and then also gave me a new sim card and it worked a treat.
I loved the whole slide up to answer the phone, it was so classy and spy like, I was also thrilled at the fact it had a camera in it as well.
Funnily enough as a geek I was the last person in my circle of friends to get a camera phone as I had no reason at the time to want one, but now that I did, you couldn’t stop me from snapping away with it. (A good percentage of my Flickr account is taken with this phone’s camera.
I did fine one thing annoying about this phone, you knock it or drop it even from a low height and the whole thing would fall apart, battery and all, which was annoying when I had trouble remembering my sim password.
I had planned on keeping this phone for a few more years, but sadly it wasn’t the case, the new apple of my eye came out and this phone is now sitting in my desk draw with all the other phones and my new baby has taken over, But I will keep it as I have done with the others as a backup if something was to go wrong with iSmug.

After reading on Mactalk about some people have major bill shock when receiving their first months iPhone bill, I was a little worried about what mine was going to be like.
I’m on the $49 iPhone cap, which after playing with the iPhone account picker, said it was the best for my usage, I wanted to make things as easy as I could for myself price wise.
After getting my account number from the Optus shop on Monday, and a lovely phone call with one of the help desk people from Optus I managed to link my account so I’d receive my actual bill online, thus saving me printing costs.
(Like to save trees when I can and from the size of some bills many a tree was killed this first month.)
Today it seemed that my proactive has paid off as an email from Optus saying that my bill was ready to be seen online showed up in gmail, which was damn good, shows that I caught it in time to save getting a print out.
Over I went to have a look, and $95.68 isn’t too bad really, I didn’t get over charged and I’ve managed to get a good amount of discounts from them for my data as well as a few other things that I could see the lovely CR(credit) against.
Hopefully this will be the start of no problems with Optus, as I was saying to the girl on the phone Monday night, after 13 years with Telstra, I really didn’t have that many problems with them, and being a brand spanking new Optus member I hope it will be the same now. (And to quote her, they like spanking new customers lol)

It would seem that I have a new geeky fetish.
Amy type of touch screen really has my interest, not just because my iPhone has one and I can spend my time playing with the slide function, it would seem that any thing with that ability get my geek going.
You see tonight I was having a chat with the owner of the local DVD shop and showed him the phone and he said to me ” have you seen what’s in the window of the real estate agents around the corner?”
I had no idea until he told me they had a new touch screen catalogue that you see all the houses on.
So off I went in the dark and the freezing cold to have a look, and eventually a play with the touch screen menu.
My godds it was fun, in that geeky small things amuse me kind of way , and I would have stayed there for a whole of it hadn’t been so cold.
So I have to admit, small things like that do amuse me, and gee if apple do bring out a iTablet, I know for sure I’d spend hours playing in it.
